Packet of 20 Seeds Mimosa Pudica"Touch Me Not", "Sensitive Plant" Mimosa pudica (from Latin pudica 'shy, bashful, or shrinking') also called sensitive plant, sleepy plant, action plant, touch-me-not, or shameplant. It is a creeping annual or perennial flowering plant of the pea/legume family Fabaceae It is often grown for its curiosity value: the sensitive compound leaves fold inward and droop when touched or shaken and re-open a few minutes later. The species is native to the Caribbean and South and Central America, but is now a pantropical weed, and can now be found in the Southern United States, South Asia, East Asia, Micronesia, Australia, South Africa, and West Africa as well. Due to Mimosa's unique response to touch, it became an ideal plant for many experiments regarding plant habituation and memory. ::Germination:: Soak Mimosa seed in warm water, 20 minutes prior to sowing seeds in cell packs or flats. Press into soil, but do not cover. Keep at 75° F., germination takes 21-40 days. ::Planting:: The plant is well adapted to humid areas with high winds. Prefers a pH in the range 6 - 7, tolerating 5 - 7.5. ::Sunlight:: An east-facing window that gets morning sunlight is ideal for indoor Mimosa pudica houseplants. Sensitive plants need plenty of bright light so set your young sprouting plants in a sunny window that receives some direct sunlight but not all day long! ::Watering:: Water daily, keep the soil moist, but don't let the plant sit in water.
