The North Georgia Candy Roaster is a remarkable heirloom squash variety cherished for its distinctive elongated shape and vibrant pink to orange skin with green-painted blossom end. The robust vines of this plant can extend widely, producing large, torpedo-shaped squashes that can weigh between 10 - 20 pounds. Inside, the rich, sweet, and creamy orange flesh offers a delectable flavor perfect for baking, roasting, pies, and soups. Originating from the Southern Appalachian region, this squash is known for its excellent storage capabilities, making it a favorite among gardeners and chefs alike. North Georgia Candy Roaster ensures a standout addition to any farm, garden, and kitchen! Squash is one of the plants grown in the traditional Native American vegetable growing technique called the Three Sisters. The other two plants in the Three Sisters are beans and corn. Each plant had its role in this companion planting tradition. Corn served as a structure for the vining beans to grow up. Squash served as a ground cover to prevent weeds from growing. Beans provided natural fertilizer for all. Do not eat treated seeds. **Seeds are freshly packed for the growing season of the year listed. Seeds are still viable beyond pack date. Store in a cool and dry location such as the refrigerator or basement to best preserve germination rates. Planting Instructions: Soil Preparation: Squash grows best in sandy, fertile soils with a pH between 6.0 and 6.5. To prepare soil, remove weeds, large rocks, and litter from the planting area. Leave small weeds and dead grass, they will enrich the soil when turned under. Spade the soil 8-12 inches deep and turn each shovel of soil over completely to cover the plant materials with soil. You may add fertilizer (see "Fertilizing" below) or 2-3 inches of organic material such as compost, leaves, or rotted hay over the planting area at this point. Till to mix this organic material into the top 8-10 inches of soil. For squash, make rows of soil beds 4-6 inches high and at least 3 feet apart. This formation of ridges will help with drainage. Planting: Since squash does not grow well in cool weather, plant in the spring after all danger of frost has passed and the soil begins to warm. For a good fall crop, plant early so squash will mature before the first killing frost. To plant, make 1 inch deep holes spaced 4 feet apart in raised beds down the rows, then plant 5-6 seeds in each hole. Cover thinly with soil and water after planting. After the seeds come up and plants are 3-4 inches tall, thin to 3 squash plants per hill. *Tip: Plant squash with beans and corn for companion planting. Planting Depth: 1 inch Within-Row Spacing: 4 feet Between-Row Spacing: 8 feet Care During the Season: Watering: Water the plants enough to keep them from wilting. If the weather is really dry, squash plants should be watered at least once a week. Sandy soils need to be watered more often than heavy clay soils. Weeding: Keep squash plants as weed-free as possible. When plowing or hoeing do not dig deeper than 1 inch to prevent from cutting the feeder rooters which may slow the plant's growth. Fertilizing: You may optionally add scatter 2-3 pounds of a complete fertilizer for each 100 square feet of garden area. Work into the soil and leave the surface smooth. For small gardens, use 2-3 tablespoons of fertilizer for each hill. Scatter the fertilizer evenly over a 2 foot by 2 foot area. work it into the top 2-3 inches of soil. When blooms first appear, you may optionally apply 2 tablespoons of fertilizer around each hill. Do not let fertilizer touch the plants. Water the plants after fertilizing. Insecticides: Insecticides may be used to protect plants. Bt-based insecticides and sulfur are organic options that can be used for prevention. Sulfur also has fungicidal properties and helps in controlling many diseases. Larvae of the Squash vine borer are usually found inside the stem and cannot be controlled once they are inside the stem. Sevin® and Thiodan® can control for squash bugs. Pyrethrin and rotenone can control for the cucumber beetle. Before using a pesticide, read the label and always follow cautions, warnings and directions. Diseases: Squash can get many diseases, especially when harvesting begins. Check the plants daily and if spots or mold appear, treat the plant with an approved fungicide. Neem oil, sulfur, and other fungicides may be used. Please always follow label directions. Harvesting: Harvest North Georgia Candy Roaster squash when they are full sized, the skin is hard, and the bottom of the fruit is lightened in color. A light frost will not damage fruits of winter squash. A light frost will not damage fruits of winter squash. Squash is best when cut, not pulled, from the vine. Winter squash can be stored for several months. Old squash vines can be composted or worked in the soil well before the Spring planting season. 20 DWARF Pomegranate Tree Seeds Punica granatum Nana Garden Fruit House Plant

20 DWARF POMEGRANATE Tree Seeds (Punica granatum) "Nana" Garden Fruit House Plant This showy, dense, dwarf shrub displays attractive orange-red single flowers at an early age, followed by bright orange-red ornamental fruit. Excellent for containers or for use in the garden. A very effective bonsai specimen. Thrives in hot, dry summer areas. While pomegranates come in a variety of sizes, the Nana variety is considered to be the dwarf pomegranate. Growing to a mature height between 3 and 4 feet, it’s ideal for use in landscape hedges, containers, and even bonsai gardening. A burst of orange and red blossoms through the summer and then a golden yellow in the fall is what you can expect from a dwarf pomegranate shrub. They do produce pomegranates, but the fruit is smaller and has a different taste. Since a dwarf pomegranate is used for ornamental purposes and only grows a few feet tall, it is ideal for pots and containers. While it may start out in a quart-size pot, you may end with having the shrub in a 3 or 5-gallon container by the time it reaches maturity. When your dwarf pomegranate is outside for the warm and hot months, you need to make sure that it is getting enough water twice a week. Watering it at the root, if your pomegranate is inside a pot, you want to make sure the water can drain efficiently during watering. Once you take the pomegranate in for the winter, you can water it once a week, making sure the soil is wet without soaking it. You do not want to give your pomegranate too much water. This could open up an environment for fungus and blossom rot on the flowers and fruit that are growing. You should not fertilize your pomegranate when it has just been planted. Too much fertilizer for a newly planted shrub can be a shock. Once a pomegranate goes into shock, it could take extra time to come back and overcome the trauma. Because their small size makes them ideal for containers and indoor gardening, they may even allow you to grow ornamental pomegranates in hardiness zones not suitable for planting pomegranates in the ground."Zones: 7-11 or Anywhere as an Indoor Plant"Dwarf Pomegranate Germination:1) Seeds should be planted in loose seed starting mix, covering with a light 1/2 inch of soil.2) Keep the soil "moist", Not wet as it will rot the seeds. Using a spray bottle to mist them until moist is optimal.3) Seeds will germinate at normal room temperature between 30-40 days, but using a heated propagator mat at 80 degrees can cut that time in half.4) Seeds Must be kept under a Bright Light, or in the direct sunlight until they germinate."If you need Anything, Please Contact us First"

Opuntia paraguayensis Compact Dark Green Cactus Plant with Orange Flowers

Opuntia paraguayensis is an outstanding showy plant from south America. It has glossy dark green pads with few spines and turns red during cool weather. The flowers are also an attractive bright orange. The whole plant stays short, limiting itself to 2 feet tall. It is cold hardy at least to the teens. You are bidding on one unrooted pad. Beware of the barbed spines and glochids. Use paper not gloves when handling. We use tongs to handle prickly pear cacti. Sections fall off almost to the touch; just plant them. Please read our FAQ in our cactusbylin ebay store. If you select more than one item from our cactusbylin ebay store that is NOT already offered at free shipping, please request or wait for a combined invoice before paying. Your total shipping cost will be much lower. Please read our FAQ for more information on combined shipping. Unless otherwise noted in the description above, all live plants are shipped without soil and pot, also known as bare root. Don't water Prickly Pear Cacti until they grow roots. It may take 30-60 days. If you water while they are in the soil before roots, they may rot. However, even though the pad may look dead, it may grow a new pad within a year. It does not matter which way they are planted. However, you typically get roots faster when they are laying flat on the soil. The down side of the pad will begin to grow roots. We can only ship live plants to the United States of America (USA). Registered Nevada Nursery Stock Dealer License: 9617 60 hour heat packs now available here. Please check the weather before ordering. Freezing weather may delay shipment or cause damage before arrival. These are cuttings. To get them rooted just lay them flat on the surface of the soil. They may start to curl like a potato chip, but whatever part of the pad touches the soil will take root. If you shove them into the soil standing them up they may rot before getting roots and new growth. Also, the pad may dry out and look like it's not going to make, but will miraculously send out new growth in the spring. Before roots and the new growth appears it is recommended to keep water to a minimum, especially in cold weather.
